E Preston Getter Cigars was founded by Kevin Getter, Sr. of Indianapolis, IN. Born and raised in Michigan City, IN, Kevin grew up in the projects with a strong desire to make a better life for himself and those around him. Joined the Army at 18, stationed in Germany, deployed to Kosovo, and to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

After the Army, Kevin moved to St. Louis, MO, enrolled in a Christian College, and started working in St. Louis. Shortly after he started driving trucks for a living, but discovered his mother had an illness back in Indiana and he wanted to be there for her. (great story here: his mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness, but fully recovered!) While back in Indiana, he joined a local Freemason Lodge and his brothers there had the privilege of introducing him to cigars! His new found love for the leaf led him to hopes, and later culmination, of his own cigar brand, E Preston Getter Cigars.

The first cigar I am reviewing from the EPG line is the Karami Robusto, 5 X 52, blended with a Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, with Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. topped witha solid triple cap. I used my Colibri Deep V Cutter for a great draw!

The construction on this cigar is good with a beautiful dark brown Maduro wrapper and a nice feel in the texture.

The cold draw has light notes of mild milk chocolate. Great draw resistance.

The name Karami comes from the Nigerian language of Hausa, as many of the EPG cigars do. As a local Indianapolis, IN, Black Owned business, the Hausa language is a beautiful addition to an already nice line up of cigars!

Getting into the flavor notes, the first third started off with a hint of dark chocolate, bitter earth, and dark roast coffee. Black pepper lingers on the palate and through the retrohale.

The second third has similar notes with dark earth, black coffee, and black pepper on the finish and retrohale.

The #finalthird kicked up a notch in strength with dark roast coffee, almost espresso, with bitter earth and a hint of pepper on the long finish. Black pepper picks up a tick in the retrohale.

The flavor complexity is similar to what you would expect from a dominated Nicaraguan blend, and the burn was nice with billowing smoke throughout. I had one burn touch up toward the end of the second third that kept the line sharp from that point on.

In the end, I gave the E Preston Getter - Karami a Final Third Cigar Rating of 87. Nice start for a new brand that is making moves in 2020!

I enjoyed this cigar and cannot wait for Kevin to continue to create new blends and hone in the craft! Also, I have enjoyed connecting with him man to man over cigars and talk of humanity!

Be on the lookout for EPG cigars!
