From the Foundation website:

An homage to the world-class soil and the storied cigar brands of Foundation Cigar Company’s and its founder Nicholas Melillo’s native state.  The Charter Oak cigars, currently offered in a silky Connecticut Shade and rustic Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, have been highly regarded since their release—including the distinction of #1 Best Buy from Cigar Aficionado.

Foundation is proud to announce a new edition to this highly popular line.  Coming late September 2020, the Charter Oak will now be offered as well in a rich Habano.

The packaging on the Habano will display the same historic 600-year-old oak central to Connecticut’s legacy of independence and industry.  It will be set apart by a warm, honey-colored box and black corner label. Like its predecessors, it will share the same five sizes in 20 count boxes as well as a larger count sixth size unique to the Habano.

“I am happy to have been able to blend a beautiful Habano wrapper into an expansion of the Charter Oak line, filling the profile gap between the CT Shade and the CT Broadleaf,” said Melillo.  “This is a medium-bodied, spicy blend with amazing flavor at a great value.”

The Foundation Charter Oak Habano is a Medium Strength, Medium Plus Body cigar, blended by Nick Melillo and manufactured at the Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. I am smoking the 4 1/2 X 50 Rothschild for this review.

The Charter Oak Habano offers up great construction, near-perfect smoking characteristics, and tons of flavor!

The cold draw offers up notes of sweet tobacco. Upon light up, you get a burst of spice from the closed foot, a great way to begin your journey with this cigar.

Getting into the flavor notes, the first third offers notes of baking spices, leather, and earth with red and black pepper lingering on the palate and retrohale.

The second third kicks up the baking spice notes with a super complex amount of baking spices and leather present with the addition of light fresh mint. Red and black pepper remains on the tongue and through the retrohale.

The final third continues with the same notes from the first and second third, with the baking spices even more present and the nice spice all the way to the end.

I love this cigar! The flavors are right in my wheelhouse and the price point is a winner, especially for how good this cigar really is!

In the end, I gave the Charter Oak Habano a Final Third Cigar rating of 94! This has been one of my favorite additions in 2020 and I am glad Foundation added this cigar to their fantastic lineup of cigars!
