Full disclosure - this is a full cigar in body and strength! And it is one of my favorite cigars, especially in it’s price range! And again, tastes are subjective!
The Southern Draw Jacobs ladder is a full strength, full body cigar made in Nicaragua utilizing a USA Broadleaf wrapper, USA Maduro binder and fillers of Nicaraguan Ligero, Jalapa and Esteli! I used the Lotus V Cutter on the solid triple cap.
I smoked the 5 1/2 X 54 Robusto for this review.
This cigar scored a perfect rating in Appearance and Construction as well as Smoking Characteristics! Absolutely beautiful construction of this cigar making for a perfect smoke! Dark oily and toothy wrapper.
Cold draw has notes of dark chocolate, pepper and hay. East light up with a nice closed foot creating a blast of flavor at light up. Perfect draw and tons of smoke. Solid ash fell in large chunks.
Getting into the flavor notes, the first third has dark leather, earth, dark chocolate, cedar, caramel, with black pepper lingering and throughout the retrohale. Awesome start!
The second third continues with rich leather, earth, cedar, with an addition of coffee and dried fruit notes, Black pepper lingers on the palate and through the retrohale.
#finalthird has notes of coffee, leather, cedar, earth with the addition of baking spices and orange zest. Black pepper lingers and is strong through the retrohale.
Super complex cigar for the not-so-faint of heart! This is a full body cigar that offers up great transitions and so many flavor notes it will keep you guessing as to what you are tasting next!
No burn touch ups required on the razor sharp burn line with the solid grey ash that fell in thirds.
The Jacobs Ladder has become one of my favorite cigars and is a go to often in my wheelhouse. I gave this cigar a #FinalThirdCigar rating of 96.5 and could tick up even higher depending on where I smoke it and the outside experience! Pairs great with coffee, scotch, bourbon and dark beer.
If you enjoy a full body, full strength cigar this is one you should give a try! A fantastic cigar by a great company!
