As told in the review of the Connecticut, Cedar Creek Cigars was co-founded in 2018 by Josh Dowler and Bryce Elsner and sits on a beautiful property that shares Cedar Creek Winery and Vineyard, Cedar Creek Brewery, and Cedar Creek Distillery in Martinsville, IN. Coming soon to this amazing property is a restaurant and cigar lounge! They also offer a concert series on site from their outdoor stage!

Josh’s love for cigars began after coming home early from school one day and finding his mother smoking a cigar and having a drink. That encounter led to years of bonding time and a new love of cigars for Josh. During holidays they would sneak away to enjoy a cigar and conversation with one another, creating a lasting relational bond for many years to come. Relationships often happen in moments when we sit back, enjoy a cigar, and just talk!

Josh and Bryce met while both were on the lake in separate boats and in passing - their wives already knew each other - they spotted each other enjoying a cigar. Cigars brought this friendship together and later birthed the idea of having a brand of their own - first creating some cigars for themselves and friends to enjoy, then later when people started asking to but cigars from them, they decided to begin the process of developing a brand and creating their first two blends - the Connecticut and San Andreas Maduro.

In developing these cigars, they wanted to not only create blends that would pair nicely with spirits such as whiskey, rum and wine, but also design flavor profiles that would pair nicely with some of the incredible craft beer that Bryce makes at Cedar Creek Brewery. Bryce is also the founder of the brewery, and their friendship led to lots of beer, cigars, and a partnership that we see today in Cedar Creek Cigars.

Josh designed the San Andreas Maduro blend with brewing grains in mind creating the incredible flavor complexity of this cigar!

The Cedar Creek Cigars - San Andreas Maduro is a Medium Strength Honduran cigar blended with a beautiful Mexican San Andreas wrapper, Honduran binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. I smoked the 6 X 52 Toro which is topped off with a nice triple cap, perfect for a Deep V Cut (see above)!

Construction was solid with a beautiful reddish brown oily wrapper with some tooth and a nicely formed triple cap. Texture was perfect, leading to a great draw resistance upon cut.

The cold draw has notes of dried fruit and mild tobacco.

The smoking characteristics category on the San Andreas Maduro earned a perfect score: draw, burn, smoke output and even light!

Into the first third, the flavor notes are dried fruit (reminds me of dried apricot), nut, light leather, a hint of vanilla, and baking spice, with black pepper on the tongue and through the retrohale.

Second third transitions nicely with a creamy walnut, smooth leather, dark chocolate malt grain, and light vanilla, with black pepper on the tongue and through the retrohale.

The #finalthird transitions again with the return of the dried fruit, with roasted walnut, and light coffee. A slight hint of the chocolate malt grain remains, with black and red pepper building in the final third and lingering on the tongue and through the retrohale.

This cigar has great flavor complexity and lots of transitions that keep you on your toes. As a reviewer, I enjoyed sitting back and nailing down each flavor I was getting, giving thought to each note as it formed. This is one, I would bet, in which each persons palate will get many different flavors from their memory bank of notes!

At the end of this enjoyable smoke, I gave the Cedar Creek Cigars - San Andreas Maduro a solid Final Third Cigar rating of 95! I really enjoyed this cigar and look forward to having this one and the Connecticut in my normal rotation!

Incredible flavor transitions! No burn touch ups, perfect burn line. Thick creamy smoke. I had perfect smoking conditions while smoking this cigar as well. All in all, made for a great evening!
