Martinez Cigars is a brand located in New York City, founded in 1974 by Don Antonio Martinez and now owned by Jesus Martinez. All Martinez Cigars are made by hand in their midtown New York City factory, by some of the most talented rollers, expertly blending with the finest tobaccos.

The Forty Five Series Torpedo is a Full Bodied New York City, NY, USA made cigar constructed with a San Andreas Maduro wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and a blend of Seco, Viso, Ligero, Nicaraguan, Dominican Republic, and Cubanito fillers making this a complex blend of tobacco. This cigar was created by both of Martinez Cigars Master Tobacconists, Crystian Polanco and Marino Rosario.

Construction was solid with a beautiful wrapper and a triple cap on which I used my Colibri Deep V Cutter for the perfect draw. The texture was a little soft, but that did not take away any marks from the smoking characteristics.

Upon cut, the cold draw had notes of mild milk chocolate and tobacco. Slightly light draw resistance at light up that became the perfect draw about a half inch in, with thick billowing smoke. A nice light up burn line that remained sharp with one small burn correction toward the end of the second third.

Getting into the first third, flavor notes consist of rich leather, a light citrus zest, and black pepper lingering on the palate and through the retrohale.

Second third transitioned nicely to a smooth creamy nut flavor with the blacker pepper spice dropping off and barely present on the palate, still present on the retrohale.

Things kick up into the #finalthird with rich leather, black pepper, and black walnut on the palate, with black pepper on the retrohale.

The flavors are beautifully balanced and the complexity of this cigar was very nice. Started off through the first two thirds at a medium strength, ramping up to full into the final third.

At the end of this cigar, with nearly perfect smoking characteristics, good construction, nice flavors, and an overall great experience, I gave the Martinez Cigars Forty Five Series a Final Third Cigar rating of 94. If you like a full body cigar with nice flavor complexity and great construction, you should give the Forty Five Series a try! This cigars goes well with anything from coffee or tea to the strongest bourbons and scotch!
