The Graycliff 30 Year Vintage is a Medium Bodied and Strength Nicaraguan cigar blended with a 30 year aged Cameroon wrapper, Mexican binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua. This 6 X 52 Torpedo was part of the June My Monthly Cigars box!
I have had a couple of Graycliff Cigars in the past and they were your basic, mild, cigar that was never much to get excited about for my palate. However, this cigar with that beautifully aged Cameroon wrapper changed my perception of this brand. Not sure if I’d buy them up at over $25 each MSRP, but definitely glad I got to try one in this monthly box!
The 30 Year Vintage has nice construction with a double torpedo cap. The wrapper was a bit sloppy for a higher-cost cigar, but it didn’t take away from the smoking characteristics - which were almost perfect with only one small burn touch-up at the beginning of the final third, perfect draw, and nice smoke output.
After cutting the cap with my Colibri Deep V Cutter, the cold draw has notes of sweet tobacco and raisens.
The first third offers up notes of cedar, black coffee, earth, caramel cream, with black pepper lingering a bit on the tongue and through the retrohale. This first third burned fast, lasting only about 20 minutes - and remember, I am a slow smoker!
Getting into the second third the burn really slowed down and the transitions began, Similar cedar and coffee notes, but with an addition of baking spices and citrus zest compliments the black pepper nicely that lingers on the palate.
The final third once again surprised me with the similar cedar and bitter black coffee notes, but a nice cinnamon spice hits the senses with a smooth toasted caramel and pepper lingering on the palate and very present on the retrohale.
The ash held on nicely, and after the quick-burning first third, I was able to smoke this cigar for 90 minutes plus.
Like I said earlier this cigar kinda surprised me. It’s really good and was a total joy sitting down and thinking about the flavors in each puff. Definitely in my top 5 Cameroon cigars I have smoked!
In the end, I gave the Graycliff 30 Year Vintage a solid Final Third Cigar rating of 92. Smooth cigar, medium body, and great smoking characteristics made this a true joy to smoke.
