The Black Star Line Cigars - War Witch is a Full strength Connecticut Shade cigar - you heard that right! Something you don’t see every day - a full-strength Connecticut…enter the War Witch!
The War Witch is a Nicaraguan cigar made by Aganorsa for Black Star Line Cigars. This soft box-pressed Corona is constructed with a Connecticut Shade wrapper, Nicaraguan Criollo binder, and Nicaraguan Jalapa and Esteli fillers. I used the Xikar XO Straight Cutter on the quadruple cap.
The construction on this cigar was solid. As mentioned before, the quad cap was a nice way to cap this cigar.
The cold draw had notes of creamy chocolate. Upon light up the draw was nice with great smoke output. Had one burn touch-up early on that corrected the burn line from that point forward.
Getting into the first third I found notes of sweet cedar, early black pepper, citrus zest with a sweet finish. Pepper on the retrohale as well which is expected on a full-strength cigar!
The second third was more roasted nut and mild coffee with lingering citrus zest and the same black pepper on the retrohale.
The #finalthird continued with the roasted nut, mild coffee, and lingering citrus zest with black pepper still present on the retorhale, albeit milder than earlier.
The War Witch is a nice full-strength cigar with a good flavor profile. Not your ordinary Connecticut! I smoked two and they both had similar construction and were consistent throughout. Smoking time was 95 minutes.
Overall I enjoyed the Black Star Line Cigars - War Witch and was surprised by the flavors and strength of this Connecticut Shade cigar - the wrapper doesn’t always tell the whole story! I gave the War Witch a Final Third Cigar rating of 89. A solid cigar that has a nice flavor profile and a punch!
