I joined the boys on The Cigar Pulpit Podcast as we smoked the JC Newman Diamond Crown Maximus on the Friday, October 29th show. This is the full review of this amazing cigar, coming to us from Nick at My Monthly Cigars.
The Maximus is a full body cigar blended at the Tabacalera A. Fuente Factory in the Dominican Republic utilizing an Ecuadorian El Bajo Sungrown wrapper, with Dominican binder and fillers. We smoked the 6 X 50 Toro #4 for this review. The Maximus has 5 years of age right out of the box!
Great construction with a beautiful dark brown wrapper and a solid triple cap perfect for the Colibri Deep V Cutter.
The aroma on the foot is a nice cocoa and barnyard, Upon cutting, the cold draw has hay and light cocoa present.
Upon light up a perfect burn line formed and stayed razor-sharp to the end. Billowing smoke throughout!
The first third has notes of leather, spice, dark chocolate and graham, with a clean minty (mild anise) finish and red pepper on the retrohale. Solid start!
The second third builds nicely with notes of cedar, leather, baking spices, espresso, and dark chocolate, with that same clean mint finish and now white pepper on the retrohale.
The final third continues to impress with notes of cedar, coffee, cocoa, cinnamon, and buttered toast, with black and red pepper on the tongue and retrohale.
Solid light grey ash fell in large chunks and flavors and body were very smooth. This cigar left my mouth watering! A solid 110 minute smoke for me!Super complex and highly enjoyable cigar. Top 2 or 3 I have had from My Monthly Cigars to date!
In the end, I gave the JC Newman Diamond Crown Maximus a Final Third CIgar rating of 95! Definitely one to have several in the humidor!
