From the 1502 website:
In our Premium brand 1502, you will find three tobacco lines with the highest quality, where the sowing process, harvest, curing, aging and selection of each tobacco leaf is our major concern. It takes more than five years from the time of its sowing until the time you can enjoy one of our fine cigars; this is why patience is one of our greatest virtues in the art of tobacco production.
In our brand 1502, you will find three lines totally different from each other, being 1502 Emerald the “Fina Fuerte” (Fine Strong), 1502 Ruby of medium strength and 1502 Black Gold with strongest character. Three spectacular bindings that exclaim the Nicaraguan flavor, which will delight at all times and will make an unforgettable experience.

The 1502 Black Gold is a full body cigar made in Nicaragua. Constructed using a San Andreas Maduro wrapper, with binder and fillers of Nicaraguan tobacco. I reviewed the 7 X 40 Box-Pressed Lancero for this review which dons a solid triple cap, enough so that I even used my Colibri Deep V-Cutter on this Lancero!
Nice construction! Beautiful dark brown wrapper.
Upon cutting, cold draw has notes of hay, earth and dark chocolate. Near perfect draw from the cold draw and throughout this cigar.
After light up, burn line was good and stayed nice throughout the entire smoking experience. Nice ash, fell in large chunks. Great smoke output too!
Getting into the flavor notes, the fist third has notes of espresso, beef jerky, orange zest, roasted almonds and black pepper that longers on the tongue and through the retrohale. Great start!
The second third intorduces a nut flavor along with coffee, orange zest, and earth, with a light spice on the tongue and retrohale.
The #FinalThird continues to build in body and complexity! Notes of espresso, citrus zest, earth, light mint, and dried fruit are present with balck and red pepper building on the tongue and prevalent on the retrohale.
Nice transitions in this cigar and flavors were deep and rich. I did have one burn touch up in the beginning of the final third, but it didn’t take away from the overall smoking experience.
The 1502 Black Gold Lancero has been one of my favorite new cigars (to me) of 2020. I can see this brand making moves in 2021 as they expand their reach into more shops and lounges, like The Smoke Pit in Greenwood, IN.
In the end I gave the 1502 Black Gold a Final Third Cigar Rating of 92. I may review the Toro once we get them in stock to compare. Fantastic cigar that will continue to be on my short list for years to come!
