From the website:

“It’s Time To See Human Trafficking Go Up In Smoke…By the time you have finished smoking a robusto, approximately 68 people were sold or kidnapped and forced into trafficking somewhere in the world. Chaffiot Collection advocates to abolish modern day slavery. A portion of all proceeds are donated to fund the mission.”

Chaffiot Collection - Brothers Keeper Cigar Review:

The Brothers Keeper is a medium-full Nicaraguan blend consisting of an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper, and Nicaraguan binder and fillers. I smoked the 6 X 52 Toro and used my Colibri Deep V Cutter on the substantial quadruple cap.

Upon taking the cello off, the Brothers Keeper had a beautiful dark brown Oscuro wrapper and the construction looked nice - just like the rest of the cigars from their lineup. However, the texture was a bit inconsistent with a hard lumpy head and a softer body and foot. This had me concerned about the draw…more on that in a moment.

After cutting, the draw was very resistant, as I expected, even with the deep v cut. The cold draw gave me hints of leather and tobacco. Very tight draw to start.

Once lit, the burn line was good with very little waviness. The draw was a chore from the get go. Might have been a one-off problem as these are all hand made cigars, but it did make for a rough smoke.

In the first third I was getting flavor notes of baking spices, walnut and toasted caramel.

Into the second third a bitter herb flavor joined the bakings spices and toasted caramel as the flavor notes with a hint of black pepper on the retrohale.

The #finalthird was strong bitter herbs, toasted caramel, earth and the same black pepper on the retrohale.

The flavor notes lingered long on the palette, and the ash fell off in large chunks. Smoke output was good as well.

I believe the tight draw took away much of the enjoyment that this cigar could offer. The flavors present had good complexity but the amount of effort to keep puffing likely skewed the overall experience of the cigar as a whole.

In the end, I gave the Chaffiot Collection - Brothers Keeper a Final Third Cigar rating of 80. It was still a good cigar, but like I have said, the draw made it hard to smoke. I would love to try this blend in a Robusto or even a Lancero or Corona vitola to see if that may help in the draw.

I have to say, for a new brand I had not heard of, Chaffiot Collection has some real potential. I look forward to seeing what’s next for them, and absolutely love their mission to help end human trafficking! A cause that is dear to my heart as well!
