From the Big Sky Cigar Company website:

We have a rich history in cigars here in Montana and Big Sky Cigar Co. has a mission to bring that tradition back to life.

In 1905, Montana had over 107 Cigar factories within the state. With only a little over 240,000 people in the entire territory at the time, that equates to 1 cigar factory for every 2,200 people. Designed locally and created with the highest quality ingredients, Big Sky Cigar, Co. Cigars aim to bring that type of high quality supply access back to Montana.

Back in the heyday of Cigars in Montana, tobacco was imported from around the world from countries like Jamaica, Java, Haiti, and Nicaragua. This tobacco would arrive in Montana where skilled rollers would design and make the best cigars in the country at affordable prices for their neighbors.

We here at Big Sky Cigar Co. want to rediscover the tradition of the Montana Cigar. We are delivering to you the highest quality tobacco from Central America, rolled with the utmost care, at a price that will allow all, legal aged, Montanans to enjoy. Like the rollers of Montana’s past, we offer this gift to you, neighbors.

When you take your first draw off of a Big Sky Cigar, Co. cigar remember the Miners of Butte, the Lumberjacks of our great forests, the Ranchers of the vast Eastern Montana Plains, the Railroad Workers that built our infrastructure. Remember with each draw you are now a part of a Montana Tradition of Cigars. Long ashes my friends.

A portion of proceeds from each box sold is donated to Warriors and Quiet Waters, a Montana based therapeutic fly fishing program for post 9/11 veterans and their families.

The Yellowstone is a Mild to Medium cigar made in Esteli, Nicaragua and blended using an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, along with Nicaraguan binder and fillers. I am smoking the 5 X 50 Robusto for this review that sports a nice triple cap.

The construction is very nice with a beautifully creamy medium to dark tan wrapper and good texture.

Upon cut, the cold draw is light creamy tobacco and mild milk chocolate. Light up donned a razor sharp burn line that maintained the entire length of the cigar. The Yellowstone has billowing smoke output and the ash fell off in large chunks.

The strength started off at mild but ticked up to medium as I entered the final third.

Getting into the flavor notes, the first third has notes of nut and medium roast coffee with a lingering pepper spice that has holding power on the palate well after each puff.

Second third offers the same nut flavor but coffee lightens up a bit. Mild baking spice appears with a mild pepper remaining on the palate and through the retrohale.

The flavors in the #finalthird stay true to the cigar with notes of nut, coffee, light baking spice and pepper that lingers.

As we all know, flavors are subjective, as are reviews! On many Connecticut cigars, I typically don’t get the notes that keep me interested. This one did though! The added pepper note to the nut and coffee, with a bit of baking spice made this a very enjoyable cigar to smoke! The Yellowstone would pair great with coffee or even a dark beer like a porter or a stout!

Overall, this was a very enjoyable smoke! From the good construction, through the near perfect smoking characteristics, and into the nice flavor notes, Big Sky Cigar Company created a blend that is not your typical Connecticut, nor too strong for anyone to enjoy.

In the end, I gave The Yellowstone a Final Third Cigar rating of 90. Great cigar from a company in which I look forward to see what’s next!
