I had the opportunity to visit The Rivermen Cigar Company in St. Louis, MO, in early June of 2020, with the boys from The Cigar Pulpit Podcast. On this trip I was able to visit several lounges and shops, but spent the majority of my time over two days at The Rivermen! Spending this much time with Dan (Owner), Jane (Dan’s mom), and Cindy (Shop Extraordinaire), gave me a true feel for this shop and lounge and the incredible customer service offered! I felt like family, interacting with Dan and Cindy, but what was equally impressive was the amount of knowledge Dan was able to share about each brand he carries as well as the cigar industry as a whole.
The Rivermen Cigar Company has cigars ranging from $3-$4 ultra-premium brand bundle cigars to the $100 unicorns that are super hard to find, and every price range and type of cigar in between! You can purchase in store or if you don’t live within driving distance give them a call and they will happily ship to your door in a very prompt manner…usually within the next day!
The Rivermen also offers drink selections for those who want to have a beverage with their cigars - from soft-drinks to liquor.
Above is your view as you are welcomed into The Rivermen. The logo is very intriguing and detailed telling a story of days gone by in the St. Louis region. Dan can tell you some amazing stories of how the name came to be! So much history in this area comes to life at The Rivermen! The artwork in the logo and in the paintings on the walls tell an amazing story of the history of this region.
Where this shop really stands out is in the interactions between Dan and his customers! He has a level of compassion rarely seen in retail, always asking people by name about their life and family. It is not an act, he truly cares about people and building relationships, not just customers! I can say that every customer who came through was greeted by name and a conversation happened well before cigars passed hands! Dan is a family man as well, and his mom, Jane, loves to spend time in the shop around all the regulars and the interactions I witnessed between him and Jane were absolutely beautiful!
Even beyond that, Dan’s knowledge of cigars and each brand was outstanding! He can not only help you discover cigars you may not have tried that fall in your wheelhouse, he can also share with you what makes up the cigars, the regions where the tobaccos come from, and even information about the companies behind the brands. You will come away with more knowledge every time you visit than you had when you entered through the doors!
Dan welcomed me and the guys from The Cigar Pulpit Podcast to record an episode and spent time with us before and after telling stories and sharing his love of the cigar industry. That’s just one of the reasons we had two different days we hung out for 12 plus hours! Time flies when talking about something you are passionate about with others that share that same love. Like many lounge experiences I have had, I walked away with more than a good experience; I walked away making a new friend who will be a person I will talk with often!
Dan and I are putting together a couple incredible projects around cigars, of which I have never seen done to this point! Be on the lookout for that!

It’s easy to go into a cigar shop and pick up a few cigars, but when you visit The Rivermen you will come away with an experience second to none!

Dan has used this time with the recent Covid-19 shutdown to take steps to better serve his customers and continue to serve the St. Louis area and beyond with the best customer experience around! Some new furniture and decor is also making its way to the shop!
Below are multiple views of their wide range of cigars - from heritage brands to the newest boutiques! Nice humidor, and several humidified cabinets housing a huge selection of cigars to satisfy any palate. These pics were taken right after cigar shops and lounges opened back up in St. Louis after the Covid 19 shut-down in the first and second quarter of 2020. Dan had crates of cigars and more orders on the way to restock, so the stock levels have or will be full the next time you visit!
